Walkability for AI assistants
This free MCP server lets an assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT answer "how walkable is this street?" with a real figure for any address in 31 European countries, and rank the cities and districts we publish.
It reads the same data as the Walkably map: a score from 0 to 100 for every 55 m stretch of street, and the minutes on foot to eight daily needs. No account, no key. It only reads; it never changes anything.

Then ask, for example: "How walkable is Carrer de Blai 20 in Barcelona?" or "Rank Hamburg's districts by walkability."
Tools
| Tool | Give it | You get |
|---|---|---|
| walkability_score | An address, or a latitude and longitude | The score from 0 to 100, its two parts (reach and street quality), how it compares with the rest of the country, the minutes on foot to groceries, food and drink, shops, health, school, parks, culture and transit, the nearest place for each, and a link to the spot on the map. |
| city_ranking | A city name | The city's typical score, its rank in its country, the typical walk to each need, and its five most and five least walkable areas, as on its city page. |
| district_ranking | A city name | Every district ranked, with its score, reach, street quality and walking minutes, where the city has a district page (Hamburg today). For other cities, the five best and five worst areas. |
How the score is made: 60% reach (how quickly you walk to the eight needs along real streets) and 40% street quality (traffic, noise, shade, slope and the kind of street). A street quality under 40 caps the score at 69. The full method and its checks against census data are on the About page.
Limits
- 300 tool calls a minute for each internet address. For more, or for a file of your own addresses, see the Walkably API.
- Countries: the UK, Ireland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Spain, Portugal, Andorra, Italy, Greece, Cyprus and Bulgaria.
- The score is only as good as OpenStreetMap in that area. Missing a path or a shop? Add it on OpenStreetMap.
Privacy
When you give an address, the server sends that text to Photon, a free address search by Komoot built on OpenStreetMap, to find its position. The answer is kept in Cloudflare's cache for up to a day so the same address isn't looked up twice. We keep no log of addresses or of who asked. Coordinates you give are never sent to anyone. To keep the service fair, it counts requests per internet address for one minute. Details: the MCP server in our privacy notice.
Licence and credit
The scores are open data under the ODbL, the same licence as the OpenStreetMap data under them. Every answer carries the credit "Walkably, data (c) OpenStreetMap contributors, ODbL". Please keep it wherever you show the numbers.
